“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.” Gal. 6:7-9
Our harvest is undeniably one of the most crucial elements of our existence. The Bible holds many verses that emphasize the significance of our harvest. Yet, it all begins with us reaping what we sow. In this scripture, Paul warns us to be careful about where and what we plant. He reflects on our material possessions, which represent the soil in which are seeds are planted: Flesh and Spirit. Every day we decide on how we will sow our possessions (resources). Oftentimes, we overlook the fact that once our spoken words are sown, we can’t change the harvest. Be aware of the power of our tongue.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.” Proverbs 18:21
Our resources (money, time, etc.) invested in the flesh will produce a harvest of corruption (Gal. 5:19-21). On the other hand, all resources sown to the Spirit will bring forth life. This harvest will yield seeds that were sown and can be replanted for another crop. (Generationally) Many seeds are wasted on worldly pursuits and can’t be harvested again. Nevertheless, we will reap whatever we have sown, and we will reap in proportion to what we have sown. (2 Cor. 9:6) The real question is, “What are you sowing? Negative judgments, vows, curses, and oaths. Have these been spoken from your lips? If so, where do you think your seeds are landing? beside the road trampled, in shallow soil, among the thorns, or into good soil? (Luke 8:4-14).” Stop attributing our unfulfilled potential to the devil! The reality is, our words directly reflect what we have chosen to speak. This often reveals itself when we are angry, frustrated, or hurt. They also emerge when we feel betrayed or bitter. Today, start planting seeds that will lead to prosperity and experience a Godly harvest?
“ Let there be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse [obscene or vulgar] joking, because such things are not appropriate [for believers]; but instead speak of your thankfulness [to God].” Ephesians 5:4
If this is the case, I encourage you to pause and pray…. Speak to your harvest and reclaim it! Prophecy over it! Speak life, healing, restoration, and wholeness into being. Call forth the seeds sown by our flesh and repent to the Lord, so every single seed can be redeemed. Then pause and ask the Lord, is there anything else?
When we look at Ruth’s story unfold (Judges). It begins during the dark times in Israel’s history, when God was seeking His bride (us) to gather His harvest. At that time, Israel was facing the repercussions of their disobedience, which is clear in the narrative. As we delve deeper into Ruth’s story, we will see God nurturing the fruit of the Spirit. He nurtures this fruit in both Ruth’s and Naomi’s lives. Ruth exemplifies this concept perfectly. Ruth’s choice stems from the harvest she desired to become her legacy. Her choice to stay with Naomi versus returning home significantly altered her harvest. Indeed, she faced several challenges due to the past seeds sown in her life. Ruth’s choice to follow the God of Israel resulted in a harvest beyond her wildest dreams. This was true for both Ruth and her descendants. Today, the Lord is searching for harvesters among us and is calling us to step into our role. Stop waiting for all the conditions to be right!
“He who watches the wind [waiting for all conditions to be perfect] will not sow [seed], and he who looks at the clouds will not reap [a harvest].” Ecclesiastes 11:4
If you are searching for a reason to avoid your harvest, you’ll easily find it. Life is a journey, and often we must step out in faith, even when conditions and situations are unfavorable. Keep in mind that there is no rivalry in the Lord’s harvest. Each of us has a specific role, and we are all called to contribute (1 Cor. 3:6-9). At certain times, we plant. At other times, we harvest, then reap. Every worker receives a fair reward for their investment in their harvest. The harvest is ripe today, yet scripture tells us the workers remain few. (Luke 10:2)
So, what is your role in His harvest? What type of harvest are you meant to gather? What specific area? Examples of these different types of seasons are: sowing seed for harvesting our families’ or friends’ Salvation. Our missions in our workplace. It encompasses our kids or our marriage. Other examples include ministry, teaching, training, and missions… (you name it). I encourage you to think about your life and look to where you have been and where you are going. What type of fields are you currently sowing, harvesting, and reaping? Are they of the Flesh or Spirit?
If you are not satisfied with what you see, make a change! If you are reaping from ‘good soil’, continue to plant and cleanse your land. Remember, Ruth and Naomi didn’t start with a good harvest, but transformation necessitates clinging to Jesus Christ. This leads to an amazing harvest! So what’s your Harvest Field?
